3D X-Rays for Braces Treatment

Quantum Leap in Diagnosis & Treatment Planning

3D x-rays can provide invaluable information in complex cases such as when impacted teeth are present. This is because they eliminate any of the uncertainty that may exist as to the position of the teeth and surrounding structures when only 2D x-rays are available.

3D imaging allows us to see the precise location of the impacted canine tooth.

We are therefore proud to be the first orthodontic practice in Gatineau-Ottawa to have the ability to take small-to-large field of view 3D x-rays right in our office. Previously, patients had to be referred to a hospital or an outside radiology clinic to have this done. 3D x-rays taken with conebeam units (such as our CS 9300 unit) offer several advantages over 2D x-rays and 3D x-rays produced via technologies other than conebeam:

  • Improved Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
Because the head and mouth are 3-dimensional objects, a 2D x-ray cannot accurately show how the structures seen in the x-ray are related to each other in true 3D space. In most cases, this is of no concern, but in complex cases, it can important to have an exact 3D representation of the teeth and jaws.
  • Significantly Reduced Radiation
3D x-rays produced with CT scanning technology (such as in a hospital) require up to 700% more radiation than the x-rays produced with conebeam imaging technology (such as in our clinic).
